Location and Working Hours: 100% Remote. You must be located in the U.S. and willing to work in the time zones of the continental US. While the work hours are flexible, you must be able to generally work on weekdays (Monday through Friday) during regular business hours Pacific Time Zone (PT).

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular 

Salary Range: $150,000-$185,000, DOE, if based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Otherwise, adjusted for geographic location.

Nonprofit Finance and Client Services Director Position Summary 

The Nonprofit Finance and Client Services Director will lead Bicycle Accounting’s client services team and serve on the leadership team. This role is pivotal in shaping and supporting our strategic and operational growth. The ideal candidate is committed to refining and standardizing accounting and FP&A processes, ensuring our services consistently meet audit requirements, and fostering a culture of excellence and delight among clients and team members. With a strong focus on operational profitability and efficiency, this position is designed for a leader who thrives on enhancing organizational performance and is adept at steering the company through its next stages of development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality bookkeeping and CFO services that meet client and regulatory standards.
  • Innovate and improve processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a client services team that excels in their roles and contributes to a positive workplace.
  • Ensure all financial practices comply with GAAP and are informed by current best practices in nonprofit financial management.
  • Actively explore and evaluate new technologies and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our services, ensuring that technological solutions align with and support our core objectives.
  • Champion our commitment to anti-racism and anti-ableism within the organization and in client interactions.
  • Regularly evaluate service profitability and sustainability, developing and implementing strategies for improvement.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in the nonprofit or social services sector with strong understanding of GAAP, including the specific rules related to nonprofit accounting
  • Minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of progressive financial leadership experience is required, with a demonstrated track record of success in financial planning, analysis, budgeting, and modeling/forecasting.
  • Passionate about technology with a pragmatic approach to its application in business processes.
  • Deep commitment to social justice, with a clear understanding of anti-racist and anti-ableist practices in a professional setting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of articulating complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading a Finance team and proven track record as an effective leader
  • Prior experience providing direct client services or in another customer-focused role
